Camp Hope
Camp Hope is a free weekend camp for children ages six to sixteen who are coping with the loss of a loved one. Camp Hope enlisted Atherton Public Relations in late July 2005 to help them generate registrations for the first Camp Hope in Northern California. The first camp was scheduled for September 9-11, 2005. At the time APR was contracted, Camp Hope had only six children registered and registration was scheduled to close in three weeks. Camp Hope needed to get coverage and increase registration or they were at risk of postponing the camp.
Atherton Public Relations recommended doing an immediate media outreach campaign in both Sacramento and the Bay Area. The goal was to both educate the public about Camp Hope, as well as seek out more children that needed to attend the Camp. Atherton Public Relations scheduled an extensive media tour that featured television interviews, live and recorded radio interviews, as well as newspaper coverage.
The results were outstanding. Registration for the inaugural Camp Hope expanded 80%! Registrations increased from only six in July to 30 by mid-August.
"We needed our first Camp Hope to have at least 25 children attend for it to be successful," stated Lynn Hebert, founder of Camp Hope. “In just three weeks, Atherton Public Relations helped us go from nearly postponing the camp to having a very successful and FULL camp roster. We have invited Atherton Public Relations to become our permanent year-round public relations partner throughout Northern California."
